When you are driving straight the center diff, and the front and rear diff dont have the differentiate torque.

When you make a turn the left and right tires travel different distances, as do the front and rear tires.

When you make a turn in 4hi without it locked 50/50 the "center diff" is doing its job so you can make the turn easier.
