OK, I want to learn more about this AMSOIL! Is it expensive? Where can I find it? Will it clean my engine out?

I haven't actually looked for it myself, but I've been told you can only find it on-line these days. Everyone I've talked to who uses it has been pleased with it. I know it's a synthetic oil, other than that - you're on your own. Do some on-line research. You should be able to come up with some good information.

It is pretty expensive relative to other oils but much cheaper than a new engine. I found some at NAPA auto parts here in town. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

It's great! I have it in my truck. I ran it in my Corvette 1st about 10 months ago. I get mine from a "speed shop" in tampa. NAPA here only carry's Royal purple and Mobil 1. I've used them all. I actually broke a Rocker Arm on my Vette using Royal purple...not sure who's to blame... but different issue..that's why I switched to AmsOil 10W40. I'd have to say AmsOIl is GREEEAAATTTT!!!! My 94 4runner with 3" BL, 35x12.50 Mud Rovers on 15x10 steel wheels, stock 4.56 gears 5spd, exhaust, intake no emissions and some doo dads gets AMAZING GAS MILEAGE!! I haven't calculated it do a .x yet, but roughly 18-20mpg overall...at least. I don't think i'm ever switching oil. I plan on running it in my Turbo Supra when the engine is broken in, which is a drag car:) AMSOIL 10W-40 & Toyota Filter. Can't beat it.

ehhh... AMSOIL oil + AMSOIL bypass... can't beat THAT... If you are interested in buying I reccomend you contact this guy http://www.gadgetonline.com/AMSOIL.htmhe really knows his stuff, and he is a toyota guy. i think my bro can resell the stuff too, but he is on deployment in korea. Gadget is a top notch guy who will answer any of your questions, my advice is to read his site, read the amsoil site, and then check out my bros site (: http://www.cloak-and-dagger.com/Car_Project/Engine_Breakdown/ChrisAmsoilInstall.htmlOr ask me questions, resisdent physics major and lube specialist (: Jay PS NAPA does NOT carry amsoil, they have contracts w/ other oil mfctrs. Alot of specialty 4x4 and hot rod shops carry amsoil though... Check the BYPASS out, that is what makes the most difference...!!!! people seem to forget that...

Ohh.. I reccomend using a engine flush before changing to amsoil, and if you have dino oil in it the first time you change to synth or amsoil you will experience what seems like your engine burning fuel or it breaking down, but what it is, is the synth dissolving your oild oil (the stuff you couldn't get out) so your oil may look dirtier than it is, and you may have to add a little after the first few weeks, the next time you change you won't have to worry about that. But it does clean your engine out. So my reccoemndation is not to swithc to amsoil or any synth with any old and tired engine, unless you have been using syth forever, if you have over 100K ondino or mix, you should prolly stick with it, otherwise you could get some play in your parts, and maybe even piston slap from all the deposits dissolving. Hmmnn.. not sure what else.

Not sure if thay have GI joes in your part of the country but thats where I see it. Its right on par with redline and other premium non-chainstore synthetics. Most good motor cycle shops should have access to the premium synthetics. stay away from torco!

I bought my truck from an idiot that used Penzoil and some white, non labeled junk filters. I switched it over at 114K. i'm at 121K. NO problems yet. You are right that it seemed to be burnin oil... i had to add 1qt over 10K miles and it got BLACK and I mean FAST! I just did my 2nd Amsoil oil change and it's still pretty clean 1K later.
I did some math too.. 3K change with filter and wanted to know what would be an = $/mile... and got about 6,600 miles. So all you have to do is run 6,600 miles and it's the SAME PRICE as Dino! (6.99/qt+toyota filter+7% tax) Vs (1.88/qt+toyota filter+7%tax) I'll change it about every 7K, save some $$.

amsoil is an excellent product my dad has been using it since the late 70s. I run it in my syclone but havent put it in the toyota yet. My dad runs amsoil in everything, even in his air compressor! Its a bit pricy but i think its worth it.
