Amsoil......Too expensive and there are other, just as good, options out there that are less expensive and more readily available. Red Line, Valvoline, Mobil 1 to name a few. Just my $.02.

I bought my truck from an idiot that used Penzoil and some white, non labeled junk filters. I switched it over at 114K. i'm at 121K. NO problems yet.

I'm not that quick to dis the Penzoil. the '91 2wd that I bought had 279,000(now 284,an change) on it an all the prev owner did was change the oil an filter every 3000 with Penzoil an generic filters. I switched to valvoline(as Darin states"top choice of machanics"or that's what it says on the bottle, hehe) 10w/30 just because I buy the stuff by the case(now four car/truck owner). I also switched to the fram ph8a filter for more filter surface, so far no probs...........Karl

what's the oil change interval on this amsoil product? i was lookin up the website and they said the intervals were a year or 25,000 miles. is tis ever possible?!?

Yes it's possible but you have to be running good oil filters and they have to be changed every 6 months or 12K, whichever comes first.

I wonder if anyone makes a little chemical doohickey to hook on your oil line to check the chem makeup of the oil (pH level, metal level, conductivity, etc) so you could know when to change your oil without having to send a sample to the lab (5$). i bet it could be done w/ somethign akin to the tester on your duracell batteries but more reuseable.

it would also be nice to know how worn out your filters are... maybe something that could measure the mean particle size, or pressure before filter vs. pressure after filter. As the filter became more clogged the pressure should start to drop off after the filter (full flow). I am not sure of the characteristics of the bypass, but the reccomened change interval is One for every Two full-flow filter changes.
If I was a mech-E or an chem-mech student that'd make a good project.

Hi, I just become "prefered customer" with Amsoil that entitle my to buy their product at wholesale prices (plus shipping I guess).
I'm in the phase where I going to buy the fluids for my truck and seem like a good deal (2 diferentials, tranfer, tranny and engine...) it cost me 10 bucks.
I'm a believer of sinthetics since I switch it on my motorhome (you really feel it at 11 miles per galon when you go downhill!!) My motorhome was doing about 8 miles per galon, just switching to mobil1 when up to 10 on flats (dif oil is red line 75w140)
Now I run mobil in all my cars (3) and do my own oil changes.
So I guess I can sell you guys just ading extra shipping <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
