Here in CA, you must have 6" between the floor and the top of the cut down doors, on the road.It is illegal to be on the highway w/o doors. A buddy of mine was stopped by the CHP, and the officer actually measured them, fortunately my buddy had made them the right hieght by accident(never looked into the legality of them). I personally do not like the looks of tube doors, they don't look finished. As mentioned you will want a way to keep out the weather, in August it can get pretty cold in the Sierra's. On our way to the Rubicon clean-up, the guys with tube doors had to wear heavy jackets to keep from freezing while on the highway, the guys with half doors didn't fair much better. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
This is weird, I asked my Daughters boyfriend who is a CHP if it was legal to take the doors off and he said yes he thinks but he would check the VC. When he got home, he checked the VC and could not find anything that said it was illegal, asked his Captain he also checked the VC and could not find anything. Who told you this or where did you read it? Delivery vans run around all the time with the doors open and they do not have a lip!!!!!

Just called one of my CHP buddys and he said as far as he knew Its not against the law to have the doors off.

Ill probably atempt to make some "tube type" doors out of square stalk, I dont have acsess to a bender. So square will have to do.

OPP'S, I really like your truck. Hopefully i'll run into you some day on the trail so I can check it out. The bed you built is awsome.
