Good morning, I switched my 89 Monty to an Aisin hub and would like to install the Superwinch in my Pop's SR.
Would this hub work with the Gen II's? Anything to look out for? Thanks in advance for any help.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I put the Superwinch hubs on my 95 about 6 months ago. I've had no problems at all. Got mine through Summit Racing, lowest price I found.

Thx MontyJo. Any mpg improvement? I know I read somewhere here that there will be problems when shifted to 4hi when the hubs are unlocked. Is this true?
I am not worried when my Pops drives the SR as he understands when I tell him something to watch out for. It is my other family members that borrows the SR on their long trips so I wanted to make sure that it will not be a problem when shifting to 4 hi with the hubs unlocked.
Thanks again for your input MJ.

With the hubs unlocked, 4 wheel drive will not work.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Body Damage is Cool
If you run your truck in 4wd...center diff unlocked...hubs unlocked, your transfer case is gonna send 70% power to the rear (good) & 30% to the front (bad!). If center diff locked, transfer case will send 50% front & 50% rear. Still bad!

It will feel like your tranny is slipping as your only getting 70% or 50% power to move the rig depending on the situation.

I've also heard this can be bad for your transfer case.

You should not shift into 4HI while moving with either the manual or automatic hubs. You can with fixed hubs only.
If the hubs are unlocked and you are in 2wd, the front shaft and axles are not rotating. IF you shift into 4wd on the fly, it will be a dynamic load on the front drive train and you will break something.

Got it, thanks for the confirmation. Will tell my Pops about it and see if he still wants to install the manual hubs.
Thanks also for everyone else's input in this matter.

Wait, what? I thought you could ONLY shift into 4-hi if you HAD auto hubs...I have autohubs, and I've never had any trouble...maybe I'm misunderstanding you...oh, and btw, I'm in Tuscarawas County...not too far from you smile

I was a little confused by his post too. But since he's the great Bob Shaw I didn't question it.

I'm wondering if he is talking about the Active Trac system or just referencing the Gen 1 4wd system?

He must be talking GenI...

Call me stupid (wouldn't be the first), but who is "the great Bob Shaw?" Could Stony and I be so lucky as to have a guru so close to us? (It frustrates me to no end that all you other guys are no where near us. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />)
