Need a Spot

What were they thinking? My 3/4 ton 4x4 chevy has the corporate 14 bolt axle, disks, spring over, and locker, all from the factory, but the U bolts are are on upside down. With a spring over, you would think the U part would be down and the nuts up. But no, chevy make a special plate so the nuts could drag in the mud.
Has anyone fixed this? All it would take is a pair of new U shaped bolts and a flat piece of steel.
