This past weekend I had the dynomax super turbo muffler installed on my 95.5 rodeo. No performance gains (as expected), but the sound is great. I then put in the calmini intake I bought from ebay for 60 bucks, and immediately felt the extra pep. To me, the performance gains from the intake are pretty significant and very noticeable. The combination of the intake and muffler creates such a beautiful, throaty sound. I've been driving around all day with the radio off just taking it all in .
Questions:
1. On the freeway, it seems like my rodeo is staying in 3rd gear longer with the intake. Is this just my imagination? Can the intake affect the shift points.
2. My truck is an automatic. I notice with these mods, My truck is reaching 4000rpm or more when accelerating to 70mph whereas in the past I don't remember going much above 3000rpm. Again, seems like it is staying in a lower gear longer.
3. Strange thing is I'm noticing a tinkling bell sound when accelerating after these mods. Can't imagine anything in the engine that would make this sound. Remember the movie "Its a wonderful life" towards the end when the bell tinkles and the little girl says "When a bell rings an angel gets his wings", well its that tinkling sound that I hear...(and no I have not sprouted any wings!)
In any case, these mods have been a great bang for the buck. $127 bucks for the muffler installed and 60 bucks for the intake. Its drives and sounds like a whole new truck.

As your Rodeo is a 95, it is speed density, not mass air. What that means to you is that your truck will not be as "friendly" to mods that introduce more air, or allow more air to exit the engine. There is some variable programmed into the ECM, mostly controlled by the MAP sensor, but not much. In MY EXPERIENCE, I have noticed that when "playing" with speed density, they can sometimes run a little to lean, and possibly overcompenstae, and run too rich. This does not happen with every make and model mind you, but its something to watch out for. On you next fill, try going one octane rating higher, and see if it stops the "ringing", and if not, go one more. If that doesnt help, remove the Air filer, and replace it with stcok one. Now if you stop the noise with the fuel canhge, you are experiancing "ping", and it is natural in some motors, as increasing airflow, can cause a slight amount of detonation. The higher octane wont help performance in any noticable way, but if it stops the ping who cares. If its not that and it stops when you place the stock fitler assy back, I recommend calling Jet Perfomance, and they can recal your ECM to compenstae for the canges..including the tranny(if its electric)..
My 2 cents..

Well, the ringing bell sound does seem to be pinging. I put back the stock air box and the sound goes away. I even tried to use the stock elbow with the cone filter, thinking the stock elbow would introduce more restriction and reduce air flow, but the pinging still exists. With premium gas prices at $2.27/gallon, I don't really want to do any mods that will increase fuel costs. So, looks like the intake is out for me. What a shame, the power loss is very noticeable with the stock airbox. I might try following Dave Chang's stock airbox modification. I'd like to get to some place in between 'stock performance' and 'good performance with pinging'. thanks for the help, anthony

Seriously, I second that. Santi Unfortunately, it is more than that. I spent much of the day swapping in and out the calmini intake and the stock intake. The pinging only occurs with the calmini and it occurs on light acceleration as well. With the stock intake, try as I may I cannot get it to ping. Also, the calmini does affect the transmission shift points. There seems to be more torque on the low end, but 0-70mph definitely takes longer. I did an experiment. I bought a rubbermaid container, cut out a 3" diameter hole in the bottom of it, and slipped it over the cone filter. I cut two 1" square holes in the lid and capped the container. Basically my filter is encased completely in the rubbermaid container and is forced to breathe through the 2 1" square holes. To me this should be even more restrictive than the stock intake which has a 2 3/4" diameter inlet. I found that while the pinging is gone, the transmission shift points are still screwed up. I then tried the same setup with the stock intake elbow with the same result. So there is something with the stock intake box and/or the nature of a cone filter vs panel filter. I'm using the K&N panel filter for the stock intake setup BTW. In the end, I'm back to the stock intake box

I second the jet chip. especialy if you have an automatic. These three things together, are much better than any one by itself. Pricy though...
