[rant] WTF IS WITH GAS PRICES? It just cost me $32.00 to fill up! [/rant]

Obscene prices aside, just what exactly is empty on these gas gauges? The needle was hovering between a hair below and a hair above the empty line, but it only took 14.227 gallons. That's still pretty empty, but with a 17 gallon tank, I figure there was still a gallon and a half of useable fuel in there.

Does it not start chugging until it points below the E or something?

Also, anyone know if the fuel light works if you swapped clusters? (no tach to SR5)

"Empty" is a rather loose term. My '84 will go another 50 miles or so (@ 10mpg) when the needle reaches empty. My 4Runner never reaches empty and I'm stranded.

I don't think they gave us a fuel light until after 1986. Mine doens't have one. I tossed 5 gallons in the back one day and just drove until she shuttered and quit. Got about 37 miles past the E in my carbed 86.

Fuel here is $1.77; outlying areas are $1.89-97 as of this past Friday. For us it's WTF, as the refinery is right down the road.

Oh man! Don't let your fuel get that low! You'll start sucking up crap from the bottom of your tank, no sh**!

It is going to have to be real small to get through the filter on the pump and the regular filter!!! I pulled my tank last year and there was not one bit of crap in the bottom of the tank. Pays to buy quality fuel---Chevron the only thing I run!!!!!!!!

theif - I've done the SR5 swap too, plug-and-play. I was just wondering because this is the second time it got this low since I swapped clusters last year and I still have yet to see a low-fuel light. The original cluster has a bulb in the low fuel light spot, although I never saw it come on either.

OOP'S - I only run Chevron too. It had better be some hot sh*t for $2.249/gal for 87 octane...
