stock87...first off make sure the bulb is working <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />... then if you look on top of the fuel tank where the sending unit mounts you'll see a connector, 4 wires on the harness side and 2 wires from the sending unit... on the SR5 sending unit there are 4 wires... so if you got 4 wire plug going into a 2wire sending unit then you'll need to install the SR5 sending unit in the fuel tank... the STD unit doesn't have the low level sender... so obtain the SR5 unit for your year and you'll be in business.

Hmmmm... now you have me curious. Shortly after I swapped clusters, the old sender took a dump. I had the dealer replace it. I just went and looked... 3 wire connector <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />.

I started this thread mainly to find out where empty really is on these gauges - now I'm wondering about this light thing.

Do you really want to know where empty is? Don't try it! You all won't believe me, but, start sucking that crap up! You'll believe me then!
STOP going to the Stealership! I warned you all!
If you want to get ripped: e-mail me and I'll send you prices on projects you do yourself for less time and money.
1.Average stealership price is: $54.00 labor
2. So then, if I can replace your T-belt in 60 minutes and it pays 3 hours, guess what? I just made 2 hour profit, do you get the stealership yet? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif" alt="" />

I just put a sending unit in mine as well as the gaskets.
Total price: $78.00! No labor involved as I did it! HEH HEH! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif" alt="" />

theif - don't worry, I made sure it was the sending until first. I know not to throw parts at a car until something works. I guess I just haven't run it down far enough to get the light to come on. I don't think I'll try.

nunsa - I understand the 'dont go to the stealer' mentality, and happen to agree, but it's not my call. Technically the truck is still registered in my parents name, even though it's been 'mine' for 3 years now. I'm slowly turning their opinions though. Saving them 200 bucks by convincing them to let me install the new muffler myself was a big step in the right direction. As soon as I get a semi-steady income, I'll do what I can myself, believe me.

Funny side story - driving with my mom to my grandparent's house in our 94 4Runner, and the check engine light comes on. Car is still running fine, and it's only about another mile or two so I say just keep going. We get there, I jump TE1 and E1 and pull the codes. 14 and 72. I inform her of this and what the codes mean. She drives it to the dealer. Half an hour later they come out and tell her "well its giving you a code 14 and a code 72." Vindication!

Slowly but surely I am convincing them. Actually, mainly my mom. My dad gets it.

Cheez... how's that for getting off topic?

Thanks for the ideas and insights all.

There's a filter on the pickup unit in the tank, so if it's shot, then you have cause for concern. Some dumb <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" /> $#)$#(&(#&$ put red clay in my tank a few years back, thinking I was someone else. I didn't have any trouble with it as far as running, but I DID run it dry, dropped the tank, and flushed the bugger out.
