I got a call from my parents yesterday on my way home from work. "We're at the dealer, and a guy just traded in a 92, v-6, auto, moon roof, power dl, pw, ac, cruise, loaded runner w/ 24k miles!" I was like, "HUH?" It was like a dream come true. So, I flew over to the dealer ASAP. This was an executives vehicle from the area. He worked at Corning, Inc. He would go overseas for 3 months at a time, and only drive the runner when he was home for a month between trips. I could tell nobody EVER sat in the back seat, very little was ever in the cargo area. Single man, no kids or pets. This thing is in even better shape than I could ever imagine. The interior is like new, The exterior is like new except for some undercarriage surface rust, damn new york state!
After talking to the salesman (he wasn't too annoying) we drove it. MY GOD, that's when I realized what kind of shape this thing was REALLY in. WHAT a difference from my 230k truck! Smooth, power (as much as a 3.0 can have) everything works flawlessly, this is the one. The deal I've been waiting 7 years to find.

Now, the price... All BS aside, 9k out the door w/new brakes, full inspection, taxes, tag, dealer fees. (really 8,200 before all the nec. BS)
A little much it seems for a 92. BUT- In reality besides the components that wear with time (rubber, etc.) what else should I look for? I looked at all the obvious stuff, and he's checking the HG recall for me. I can't find a THING wrong with this besides a TINY amount of paint bubble on the drivers side of the rear slider rubber gasket (top of tailgate) That's it.
PLEASE leave any comments, ideas, suggestions.... I'm applying for a loan for it tomorrow. I JUST bought an 89 nissan 4x4, one owner, 68k miles wed, and put it on the road friday for a DD while I work on my truck (valves, timing belt, etc) But I drove it to work sat. and I really don't like how it felt driving, I'm too used to the yotas! Then this 4runner fell in my lap on the way home! Anyway, sorry for being so long winded, but I'm excited!
Jason

Body Damage is Cool
Not a bad price.. hate dealers!!!

I would give it a good test run and make sure none of the seals have dry rotted. Belts ect... also check on the head gaskets. Make the dealer call/ or you call toyota of america yourdself to check it out.

DD for now, nothing real wild for mileage reasons. It has 31's on it, which really seem fine for now, still some good tread. I have a new set of 33" BFG AT/ko's on my truck I could swap on. Prob. a body lift also. I have a 3" on my truck, may go with only 2" Roger Brown on the 4runner. The bfg's seem to not be as big a 33" as my old mickey T's. Must be BFG uses a different yardstick.
Anything else you guys can think of for me to tell the service manager to specifically look at? They said they'd do the brakes, they're a little spongy. Calipers look so- so, kinda rusty, but may still be fine. They hadn't even had time to get the vehicle in to inspect it after the guy traded it in. (But they had time enough to think about the price....I HATE dealing with the dealer.)

Check around the fuel rail for leaky o-rings on the injectors. with that little milage over 12 years, the rubber has to be a bit dried. No a big problem to fix...unless it's spewing fuel onto the manifold....in which case your not driving a toyota 4Runner...your driving a toyota molatov (sp) coctail!

Personally...I think the price is a bit high. You can get a '92 Runner in really nice shape for about $5000, although it will have 160K on it. That milage you've got is great though. I'd bet the dealler trade-in on it was somewhere around $5000

...Anyway...just my thoughts.

'93 4Runner - 3.4L 5VZ-FE, 2" body lift, on-board-air system, custom gauge cluster, rear e-locker, electric fan, custom built front and rear bumpers, sliders, 4,88 gears...all on 33x12.5's.

IMHO, that is way too much $$$ for a 12 year old truck...no matter what the mileage is. Talk them down to $6K and then you have a deal.
$9k is damn near halfway to a brand new truck....0 miles.

Just my opinion.....

6K Is about what an early 90's runner in "kinda-okay" shape would go for here. "Kinda-okay" meaning rust forming, paint bubbling, scratched up, maybe some dents, drivers side seat ripped on the left edge, maybe a moon roof, maybe not. Prob. a cigarette burn or two, possibly some dumb mechanic's crappy work waiting somewhere deep in an expensive place.
This one is basically new, besides being 12 years old. It was driven every 3 months for a month, so that part isn't entirely bad.
So, I've got 2 "go for it" and 2 "too much $$$"
Anybody else? I thought this would be a hot topic, I know I've dreamed of finding one like this.
