I wonder if you could use the rear cab/body mount bolt for this? Maybe drill it out for a 1/2" Grade 8 bolt and anchor one end of the belt there? Its in about the right location and should be a good strong point. Just a thought.

The problem I see with the stock belts is that, in a slow speed rollover or crash the belts don't lock up, so they wouldn't hold you firmly in place

I have kind of been operating on the assumption that they did lock up. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> Am I wrong? Mine lock up with forward momentum.

I think a certain speed threshold has to be met for them to lock up. It isn't much, maybe 5 mph, but I can definitely see a slow speed roll over where the belt didn't lock up, at least initially, at which point the damage might already be done. You can see how much momentum it takes to cause them to lock by just pulling on it quickly vs slowly to see what happens. We have all been driving the road and found out belts needed adjusted, and simply pulled them out to get a little extra slack, so just being in forward motion doesn't make them lock. There needs to be some kind of jolt at a certain speed, I just don't know what speed that is.

This topic has particular interest for me because I have a 4- and 5-year old we take on our trips, riding in the back. Until I put anchors in behind there booster seats they always "walked" there seats forward, even though the were belted in. The anchors help, but a belt with constant tension would give me a lot more comfort about their safety when we are on the trail.

If you look at the mechanism, you'll see they will lock at any speed as long as you are not close to level. Its just a ball bearing that rolls out of the mechanism and locks the belt. Only problem I have with mine is they'll lock up on a steep hill, trapping you back in the seat where you can't reach the shift levers if needed.

I'f you've done Josh's seat belt re...e how sensitive the locking assembly is!

Probably not a solution for a DD since it renders the doors useless but, I welded tabs to my exo cage seat mounts:

Interesting....Do those seat mounts attatch to the top of the rock sliders? Don't get me wrong, I like it, just wondering what it's for.

Dang, I like what you have done to the inside of the truck. The more I look, the more new things I see. Bar connecting the sliders to each other, raised ( really raised!) tranny, etc, etc. Very, very cool, too bad going doorless in western Washington jsut isn't very feasible!

seats attached to the hoops and over the raised tranny, angle iron over the t case ebrake with a bar to the shoulder bar, hoops attached to the sliders.

Been following this thread all afternoon, and the thing that kept creeping into my mind was...why not mount them with the stock belts. Stack them. Get a longer bolt to compesate for the lap belt bracket and there shouldnt be any risk to the integrity of either restraint. Am I missing something here?

Nope! You are missing nothing! That's EXACTlY what I did with my 3" lap belts. Works great!
