I was wondering what size tire to run with 5.38 gears i might buy a set since they are going out of production. What would be the best size if i was running the truck as a daily driver... Arent there speed limitations with the 5.38's. I am just trying to figure this stuff out since they are on their way out.
What about with the 307 case whats the best size to run with that off road im thinking 33's ? - jason

The axle gears, you'll wanna a 33"-35" for the 5.38s... depending on what your orginal tires size/gear ratio was. But less than a 33", you may be turning some high rpms on the highway.
the 307 kit, it doens't matter what tire size since they only come into play offroad. basically there will be benefit at any level. maybe slightly more benefit for the larger tire guys becuase its that much more difficult not to slip a little clutch when on a steep hill. Tera's will keep you from rolling back and having to dump the clutch to get going.

When I first installed the 5.38s I was running my 33s. GREAT acceleration everywhere!! It was really fun, made the old Amigo feel like a sports car.
But, I don't think that is the best combo for top speed or gas mileage.
THe 5.38s and the 35s is an excellant combo. Very happy with the around town driving as well as the highway driving.
My Amigo has the 2.6 I4 and origianlly came with the 4.55 gears and 31" tires.

When I first installed the 5.38s I was running my 33s...... I don't think that is the best combo for top speed or gas mileage. This is the combo I will be running in the somewhat near future (within 2 years). Top end isn't an issue.... the fastest I drive now is 75 (on rare occasion).... and I'm usually around 65-70. How dramatic was the hit in fuel economy? How fast did you usually drive your Amigo at that time? Just through merit of moving up to 33's, lifting 2", and adding the 5.38's I am expecting to lose 3-4mpg...... hopefully it won't be more than that

33's were acceptable if you don't like driving 90MPH, 35's are great, I can still burn em. But I think mathmatically that 37-38 will be perfect.

Is it Shawn or Sean? I've only known Seans but mostly see Shawn.
Anyway, gas mileage was already down with the 33s and stock gears. If you keep it around 65-70 you probably won't notice any difference, 1-2 mpg at most if that.
As for pplotz and still able to spin the tires, we are talking 2.6 I4, no spinning tires going on here.
And I would say that my Amigo is close to stock with the 35/5.38 combo (stock 31/4.55) in acceleration and feel as it can be. Now my engine does have 180,000 miles so it may have lost a bit of pep from that but it feels good. Speedo error is around 6-7% (going from memory, been a while since I calced all of that).
The 33/5.38 combo is great for around town!!

Its Sean (see sig under my posts ) Oddly enough, I do not know any Shawns either, 2 other Seans, and my roommate my first year of college was supposed to be a Sha un... but he kinda never showed up. [Useless trivia]I was named Nathan by my mom when born. But my dad didn't like the name, so mom left it up to him to find a 'better' one. He went home and a Sean Connery movie was on..... and that is my story of the cheapest way ever to get a name [/useless trivia] 1-2mpg I can definitely deal with, as I was prepared to take twice that (and still am). I'm just over 141k right now. I have been in contact with 90Amigo and he really likes his 33/5.38 combo..... but he had only been running it for a few weeks at that point. Never hurts to get a few opinions, and I thank you for yours

Just as a data point: I had the stock 4.10's in my 3.2 auto Rodeo, went to 5.13's for my 35's. On the highway, it's just about perfect. With 5.38's, 37's would be my choice.

No need to be sorry. I am definitely not upset at all.... didn't mean for it to come across that way if it did
