Interesting. One thing really stood out. He said that Kia decided to use the crankshaft common to both the gas and diesel engine to save inventory costs. Everything I've read prior to this said that Mazda used a stronger forged crank while Kia used a cast crank. A diesel engine requires a very strong crankshaft because of much higher internal pressures. So these statements seem to contradict each other.

the diesel definitely used the stronger crank .. he probably meant to say that the kia and the mazda used the same crank .. coz the gas crank will not make it with the diesel or u will have a problem ..well thats what im hoping he meant .. or it will really be a big contradiction ..

Well, he made it pretty clear that the crankshafts in the Mazda engine vs Kia are different. And that statement I've heard before from other sources. But the reason given was a forged crank vs a cast crank. So it doesn't make sense unless the diesel engines are running around with an inherently weak crankshaft. Or...maybe it is forged after all. If it is we have one bulletproof bottom end.

Ok we worked out the details and we are infact meeting on the 26th of June for a wheeling and parts exposition. Doing some caping and grilling. Although it will not be easy speaking to them as they do not speak english. And I am not all the fluent in Korean. We will make due with dictionaries and the old fashion drawing pictures on paper, hopefully I can score an electronic translator, that would definatly be a plus.
