as a kid I always wanted a BUCKMASTER,,,the one with the grapple pins and rope hold,,,,,but its not such a good idea to throw a knife up in the air and hope it catches ,,then climb up it...

Well I live here in oregon. The knife capital of the US, Gerber, Benchmade, Leatherman...ect.

But I choose benchmade for my knife. I chose the Benchmade 710HSSR for a couple of reasons. The axis lock (greatest lock ever invented), the M2 steel, and the wicked cool look of the knife. Its huge and it makes a great EDC

I've had a CRKT (Columbia river knife and tool) K.I.S.S. knife for 5 or 6 years now. I'm not a knife expert, but I abuse the crap out of it and it refuses to die.

I've got a couple of Pirahna automatics. Made right here in Idaho! (By a guy who hand built one of the most killer jeeps I've ever seen!!!)
They are the toughest fastest knives I've ever owned, and ULTRA cool factor!

I know autos are legal in Oregon, and I think it's the only state that they are.

I've gotten to know the owner of Pirahna fairly well, and he "kind of" explained it to me. It has alot to do with where the knife is manufactured. It is legal to build, sell, and own one in Idaho, so that makes it legal in some other states. I know he sells alot to a dealer in either Michigan or Wisconsin. He has dealers all over, but not exactly sure.

What certainly is NOT legal is when another friend forgot, and packed his 7" in his carry-on! It made the round trip without being noticed!!!!
His father has FBI connections, and they informed him after the fact. Boy, did the turds roll......

It's also a 'size matters' issue. Even in California you can own an auto if the blade is no more than 1 3/4 inch.

According to numerous studies girth matters more than length... at least that's what my girlfriend keeps telling me

Seriously, you guys can make those of us who have simple leathermans incompetent. I also have a nice Dacor folding knife w/ a ~5.5" blade.

FEDERAL KNIFE LAWS and Switchblade Knives

State and local ordinances are not the only knife laws. The
federal government also has its own knife laws. Federal law
bans interstate commerce in switchblade knives. The only
exemption to this federal ban is direct sale to government
agencies by manufacturers.
