That is sort of what I did.

I installed the spacers and lowered the bars until there was no exposed thread left. With my SwayAway t-bars, I have a little lift over stock, not sure exactly how much since stock was a long time ago. Using the spacers and then relaxing the bars as far as they can go would make the softest front.

I also have low profile bumpstops and my extension stops are spaced down 1/2" per Frank's recommendation.
