Just installed a set of coil springs on my '89 LWB. the donor was a '99 Montero (Thanks to M&S recycling). This was an incredibly easy mod. As Phil wrote in his article "Budget Lift", the hardest part was raising and securing the truck to work under. But with a little help from my Massey Fergusson 165 (High Lift ) this was not that bad. Job took 2hrs to complete, only because I was able to lift the truck all @ once. I did not have to disconnect the shocks, just used a short prybar and the old coils were out. The old springs being 2" taller than the new made installation a breeze.
Result: Exactly 2" of lift Now for the new shocks & a test drive
Thanks to Phil for the excellent instructions in his article, and for his encouragement

I have a set of stock springs from my sport. If anyone wants to try them they are up for grabs.

The coils were $50 each, with shipping the total was $122. Shipping was from Rancho Cordova (Sacremento) to North of Seattle. First time I've bought from M&S recycling, nice folks to deal with.

Thanks to Phil for the excellent instructions in his article, and for his encouragement Aww shucks. You're welcome. Glad it worked for you. So I can add 96-99 to the article for potential donors? Cool!

Phil, If I remember right The M&S rep told me these coils are the same through 2002.
Did some light off-road this morning, Like the ride, I can't tell any diference from the stock springs. Boy do I need shocks though

Is there a website for that M&S recycling place. When I had wrecked my truck, I was looking around at local junk yards and noooothing. But now its fixed, but there might be something else i want down the road.

Angelo: http://www.msrecycling.com/Bob, are you going with KYBs? I haven't been able to try mine yet, but they sure are purty!

Phil, Not sure Are you recomending KYB's? I'm thinking of trying the "Mountain Ryder" Shocks sold by the Les Schwab tire stores. The Schwab guys are really high on them. They carry a lifetime warranty & I believe the cost is about the same. I have not heard of anyone who knows anything about these Schwab shocks. Hijack Warning... I'll start a new thread...
