no one wants to really answer this question, because you all dont recommend the split boots in the first place, but would it be possible to just change the outer using a split boot without even pulling the rotor? Not that pulling the rotor is a problem, it just looks like there would be enough room to work , but i guess these boots are a pain from the sounds of it.

And pulling the rotor still leaves the spindle in the way, but i suppose would give you some extra room?

well, i know Ive drug this out, Ill just have to find the time and take a look at it and decide what route to take, and tear into it one way or another.

thanks

There is a darn good reason, they do not work very well. But, if you are determined to use them, then go for it.

You have already heard the opinions on this, but the only way to find out is for you to try. It may look spacious, but it is cramped once you get your head, two hands and some tools in there.

And you do not have to pull the rotor. Please read what we've written. To do it correctly, you have to pull the spindle/knuckle assembly without disturbing the wheel bearings and/or the rotor/hub.

If you are going to sell it, just sell it. Don't waste your time or money on it. Leave the hubs the way they are. The next owner is not going to care either way. Knock off a couple hundred bucks off of the price and let them deal with the boot too.

Good Luck,
Michael

I understand what was written, and did read it, but it was referring to using a non split boot, and if going from the outside, using the special "pop" tool to avoid pulling the inside, or just pull the inside, change both boots and leave the rotor,/spindle in tact.

your right, if i want to use the split boot without pulling much apart, Ill just have to try it, and your right about selling it as is, thats why i havent really worked on it yet, Im not driving it now, but I might keep it for awhile, and if so, just looking for all my options.

thanks again for all the help and info.

Sorry about the misinformation about the bearing. I know I had to pull the bearing when I did my rotors, so I got mixed up.

As long as the CV isn't messed up, the new owner should not be concerned about it. They can just have it replaced as well. It is a dirty greasy job, but we really enjoyed hanging out and working on it. See if you can find some local Zu guys to come over,...Order a pizza, and have a good time under a great truck.

"a great truck"...well, I used to think so, but Im not so sure anymore. after 2 heater cores, noisy lifters, bad 4wd solenoid, and torn c/v boot, im wondering about the quality of the Isuzu's. must be thier affiliation with GM.

Well, You could always sell it to one of us cheap

I think Mando is looking for a second Rodeo here in Texas.

I think you must have just gotten a bad rig that someone didn't take good care of or something. Mine has been one of the best trucks I have ever owned. That includes 2 nissans, a Ford, and a Chevy.

Sad to hear you aren't happy with it though.

And depending on where you are, I MIGHT be interested, also depends on how cheap..I think I might have gone a little over-board in planning something, and may need another rig to work with...

Im In GA and Im looking at around $4k for the truck. It falls somewhere between "clean" and "average" condition...

It has had great maintenance and care since ive owned it. Ive changed the tranny fluid three times, and oil every 3-5K, usually running mobil 1. Ive also changed the tranfer case oil twice and the differential oil once(front and rear), Ive flushed the radiator also and changed the antifreeze a few times as well.

And it never sees 4wd. Ive probably had it off road for a total of about 5 miles
