I did the job last night. First time, took 3hrs. The upper ball joint separation was the toughest part. I removed the whole spindle/axle shaft as a unit by unbolting the lower balljoint (four bolts). The Meca-Tech boots seemed to fit well. Now I just have to do the other side. Couldn't have done it without this thread. The dealer quoted me $2033.00 to replace the boots!

The dealer quoted me $2033.00 to replace the boots! That's cuase the dealer won't replace just the boots. They usually quote for the entire half shaft replacement. Hope the 2nd side goes faster for you.

It took me less time (almost) to change the half shaft (passenger side outer of course) on the grass at night at the campground at Moab this year then it took me to read this thread. I carry both side spares which I have rebuilt when I break one for about $80 at Precision CV & Axle in Carson City NV.
PS To separate the upper Ball Joint, loosen nut until barely on then place jack under nut, just hit spindle (I mean really hit it) with a hand sledge)

Hey, just wanted to say that I printed out the instructions and found them very helpful. Changed both boots on passenger side in three hours, both on drivers side in an hour and half. I do have to say that on my 94 Rodeo (128k) there's not enough room to get a breakover bar and socket on the upper ball joint castle nut and there's some confusion on whether or not the outter cv joint can be taken apart. On my Rodeo, there's no c-clip to allow you to get the joint out of the housing. I don't think the outer joint is serviceable. Other than that, I just wanted to say thanks for saving me allot of time and a bundle of cash.
