Body Damage is Cool
Just got back from Dynospot Racing, a local dyno shop, and I have some numbers to share for the turbo truck:

The max numbers are [...drum roll...] : [color:"red"] 222.4 hp, 243 ft. lbs. @ 15 psi.,[/color] as measured at the rear wheels.

[Linked Image]

I am pretty pleased, as these numbers were obtained on 91 octane pump gas! This thing is a blast to drive, and makes me want to find some speed rated light truck tires, if there is such a thing.

When I first started this project, I felt that it might be possible to deliver as much as 300 hp to the rear wheels on pump gas and turbo alone. Obviously, it wasn't possible to run enough boost and advance on pump gas to do that. For the record, I have no doubt that with racing fuel I could easily run enough boost and advance to make 300 wheel hp...but that wasn't what I was after. I want a truck that makes turn-key power. Now, that goal may change if I get bored with what I have, but I don't think I will.

The motor only has 1000 miles on it, so I may see another 5-10 hp once the rings fully seat. Also, I've seen all sorts of numbers tossed around for driveline losses on 4x4's, but even a middle of the road number like 25% puts me at 300 hp at the flywheel, which is impressive. I think any way you measure it, I have more than doubled the stock 136 flywheel hp, which is pretty damn good. This motor rocks! Kudos to Tim @ D.O.A. for building a solid, deep-breathing platform utilizing his own custom head porting and turbo cam grind. And while some of these parts came right off the shelf, many parts (such as the throttle body + linkage, intercooler setup, and the exhaust, to name a few) had to be made by hand. Building this motor has been a lot of work! I don't know if I'd do it again, but it's pretty fun to drive the end result

So what's next? Driving it and enjoying it! And if I ever get the urge for more, there's always water injection

Nice numbers Jeff! That torque curve looks pretty flat for a turbo motor too, I am sure that it pulls really hard now. Time to surprise some kids in Hondas.

Congrats Jeff! If I had your truck I would be out smoking ricers all day long. Where did you dyno and how did the A/F chart compare to your wideband? I need one ASAP...

Thanks, guys.

Ken: Dynospot (in San Jose) wanted an extra $40 to display WBO2 info. Since I have one built-in, I opted to pass...but since I also forgot to do any sort of datalogging during the dyno runs, it was all moot. Dynospot has a raised dyno setup, and for insurance purposes they do all the driving on the dyno. By the time I remember that I wanted to datalog the runs, my pulls were over and the car was being lowered.

No big deal, though; I'm sure I'll be back on the dyno again at some point.

DEAR GOD

what is the rest of your trucks setup? like gears and wheels and tires?

seems like 4.11s (or 4.56s if you're an auto which i guess you probably are) with like a 31x12.50 BFG could be a fast ass setup without being too revvy

come over and let me drive it!

Well I have to say that I'm very jealous of your motor! I also like how you've outlined the progress on your website. I'm glad everything is coming together so well for you. Now you just gotta make some time to have lots of fun w/your truck. Keep up the great work!

Those numbers are better than most supercharged 3.4 V6 dyno results.
