Ok here is the situation. My paint is PERFECT with the exception of rust on the lower rear quarter panels and right around the rear fender on both sides... so here is what I am thinking...

I want to get huge wheels and tires 33's for sure... but my question is.. let's say I only lift the suspension like 2 inches, then would I need to trim the fenders back ? IF SO HOW MUCH Because I want to trim it to get rid of the rust anyways, and then I could do some bodywork to keep it from rusting anymore, and then put on the Bushwacker fender flares and paint them bodycolor ?

What do you guys think ?

My main questions are:

1) Do I have to lift it first or can I put on the 33's with the stock suspension and THEN TRIM THE FENDER LIKE THAT ?

2) Can I go like 2" suspension lift (the cheap 3" lift that everyone talks about where it isn't $600... can that be 2" instead)

I obviously don't care about clearance YET, but I want to take care of this rust issue ASAP <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

A set of 33s on a stock-height Rodeo sounds like a sure-fire recipe for rubbing to meà
Although, without a lift, I seriously doubt you would (or should I say: æCOULDÆ) damage your new tires very much, because in all likelihood, you wouldnÆt even be able to get out of the driveway!

Depending on the offset/backspacing of the wheels in question, youÆre probably looking at needing some lift (suspension or body), a fair-bit of front fender-well trimming, and maybe a smidgen of rear trimming too. --- ItÆs possible to get the rears to clear without any trimming, provided that the offset is far enough inboard (stock wheels should be fine for that)à but either way, those fronts are absotively gonna need some tender-loving BFH and/or Sawz-All persuasion (and thatÆs with or without the lift).

What other options are there when the bottom part of the rear quarter panel has rusted thru <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

How far up does the rust go? Can you get a picture posted? You could always just cut a nice parallel al the way back, on both sides. When I had my back bumper off, most everyone that saw it(except the police, who started loking at bumper laws), thought it looked mean, and with the 33s, it would look totally bad- <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" />. I might be able to post a pick in a few days or so, without the bumper, because thisd leaves the sorta gap you would have when cutting., then, rhino-line, herculine, something like that, to finish it, and prevent rust...

P.S. I have 33s and a 3 inch, and I had to cut just to turn the wheels..

Here are some pics... I know... I know.. it's BAD <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> but I wanna take care of this somehow and I don't know where to start.

Me personally, I would sand down to bare metal, from that lower crease, down, and about 1-2 inches(minimum you need to remove the cancer), around the wheel wells, adn continue ths trend down the side to the front, on both sides...

Then, use decent rattle can primer, probably 2 coats...

And from there, get yourself about 1 large can of herculiner from pep-boys(approx 60 bucks), and follow the directions from there.. you will have scratch resistance, and rust protection...

I think other brands are available in different colors..but the Herculiner is (IIRC) avail is black only..

I understand the concept of what you are saying, but I have no idea what you are talking about in the last part...what do you mean down the side to the front <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" />

Lemme try again..

The stripe you have the runs down the side, front to rear, there is crease rght under it...to make it uniform, when you sand and herculine(rhino-linning in a can), follow from the crease, down to the bottom of the truck.. and do the whole thing, front to rear...only from that crease down though...

What I was getting at, was give it a 2 tone look, but the lower color, would be the herculiner..scratch resistant, and thus no rust...

Like I said, just a thought..adn I have seen the underbody done in this, but you might want to have a pro do it..
