Hey Guys,

My truck sometimes fails to start and hold the idle, I have had the manifold intake gasket replaced. Now a dealer tells me it is the combustion gasket. I don't have any mechanical know how, but reading these boards have never heard of a combustion gasket. Do you think he is BS me? Could it be something else? We're talkin over $600 here.

Thanks,
Art

I would guess the combustion gasket = head gasket...at least that is where the combustion occurs. And yes head gaskets are expensive.

Your symptoms don't necessarily match up with a head gasket problem, though.

Thanks for the reply, well I had it done the other day. But still get random times when it doesn't want to start. today for example ran some errands had no problem, truck sat for a few hours, went out again and it didn't want to hold the idle again, took 3 tries and then it held, went a couple places parked the truck and started right up both times and drove home no problem. very erratic behavior. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
