Whatcha drivin'?

I would bet you have a low fluid problem. Did you check the level with the tranny in drive, after you ran it through all the gear positions. Was it up to temp? The later model tranies have a very specific method to checking and filling. Without knowing what you are driving, I can't tell if this might be your problem.
