No, it doesn't play DVDs. However, there are ways to wire up an external video source such as a DVD player to factory nav units.
Jim So it has a video input?

if you go to www.nav-tv.com, you can get a device that would allow you to wire up a video input to this or most any other factory navigation system. Jim

It is nice, but if you want a unit that is only 1 DIN and easy to install go with the Pioneer AVIC-N1. It has a motornized 6.5" Touch screen and plays DVDs AND MP3s, It was 1600 as well, and requires no cutting. Unfortunately it has only 1 cd, but I picked up a pioneer CD changer on ebay for 50 bucks. The other benefit is that it is voice controlled. My two cents.

I have that in my 03 Camry SE. I wish I had it in my 4Runner.
