Has anyone done something similar to this? I have verified many of the electrical connectors are the same, although there's a couple that are different. I only have the 1984 Toyota manual.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have both an '85 22r non-CA and an '84 22r CA and know that the the wiring into the fuse box is a bit different. Think my '84's got 2 fusible links while the '85's got 3. I don't think that it would be too difficult especially if you've got all the connector's and wiring from the donor.

If I did it i would use all the original motors emissions etc stuff, and not register it as a change of motor.

PS, but for the effort why not just put a 22RE??? or a 22RET

Because Engbldr down the road recommended using the '87 block. It will have a mild cam & OS valves when he's done with it.

I live in Multnomah county, Oregon (Portland) so I have to deal with emissions test. Both vehicles have gone through DEQ and the limits and tests...are EXACTLY the same. I just wonder if they require that the OEM smog equipment has to coincide what that sticker says placed underneath the hood. I went through what the VIN #s mean on both vehicles awhile back and I don't recall smog equipment being part of the information in the VIN#.
