Well, I think I finally got rid of the death wobble.

I ended up moving my spring hangers to the rear and putting the shackles up front. After trimming the shackles down a tad I ended up at about the same height I was at before but the death wobble is gone. I am guessing I only have maybe 3-4 degrees of positive caster. Before I would guess I was well beyond the acceptable 6-10 degree range and somewhere around 15. It was pretty bad. So anyhow, I learned my lesson. Luckily I was able to pull this off in an afternoon. I am getting a little too good at pulling my truck apart.

I gots my ford shock towers in but I found it very annoying that the shock bolts I had didnt fit in the towers properly. I am considering drilling out the towers so that I can run the same bolts top and bottom.

Is this going to cause any problems when I use a different shock? I test fitted some doectechs?? spelling. And they were too short, I need something a little longer. How long are the rancho 5112s? I know they are supposed to be stiff and all but 9000s are kinda silly as well. I would like to stick with doestech if I could. They are a nice ride and stiffen up just the way I like.

I hate to have to ressurect this post. But yep, the death wobble is back.

I am uncertain how I am getting the death wobble. Of course the angle on my draglink clearly says you have bumpsteer. But bumpsteer should only pull me into more situations where I wobble. Not actually cause the wobble.

So anyhow, that leaves me thinking about caster angle again. Right now the truck tracks fairly well while the steering isnt too heavy its pretty tolerable.

Also, before when I had longer shackles which should have slightly reduced my positive caster angle I ended up with the wobble even worse then.

I am now questioning if I just have too much positive caster or still not enough?? I will buy an angle finder tommorow and see what I can find for measurements.

I will be replacing the heims with TREs and a new tie rod here in the next week to see if that will help a little as well. Right now I just have the heims uber tight in the stock steering arms of the waggy knuckles.

Here is about the only decent image I have of what we are looking at for caster angles. I am a digital camera borrower not owner so sorry about that.

Well the measurements I got on the caster angle was 8degrees of positive caster.

I am thinking that should be just about perfect. So I am going to see if I rotating and balancing the tires will do something. Along with replacing pretty much all of the steering components.

The problems never seem to end.

Tell us more about what it feels like, when it starts/stops (what speed), whether it does it when going around a corner, etc....

In the meantime, replace any TRE or ball joint that has any play in it, check the spring bushings, tighten the shackle pins a bit, and cross your fingers.

Well it happens somewhere around 20-30 MPH and I usually am hitting a bump with the passenger side tire, or with both tires, small ledges in the road really scare me.

I am replacing the heims with TREs in the tie rod and I will also be reaming the pitman arm to take the Chevy TRE from the bottom to get a little better angle on the drag link. So I will be left with only good tight TREs at all points of my steering. As soon as I get new steering components I will be rotating and balancing my tires.
