I have run across an 85 fsj with a blown motor. The motor is diasassembled but repairable( guy ran it w/o water, It's a 4.6L (282)like I have in my cj. I think I can buy it for about $1000 USD. It has some surface rust but the frame is sound. The t case drops on the driver's side. Which t case is this most likely? Anybody know which axles this beast has? Is it worth the price? By the way, it's been sitting for several years as is. Thanks in advance....Rob

Body Damage is Cool
Not sure but I think they were using NP207 xfer cases then. generally considered inferior. There ought to be a tag on the back of it with the number. Don't know about the axels but here is a link to help ID. Differential ID chart Doesn't sound like that great o' deal to me. Depends on the mileage, axels and interior condition I guess.

since the engine is blown, you may want to replace the engine tranny and t-case with something like a 360,th400 and an early bronco dana 20 or np205. of course that's a big spendy project. but if what it's got is inferior, you may as well upgrade. i'm puzzled by the drivers side drop front end. i didn't think jeep did that until the yj but i'm not a jeep guru like some people. some of the old j trucks came with a semifloat dana 60 rear end. those are pretty cool. this one's pretty new. maybe it's mopar stuff. ask the fsj guys. they should know. http://www.ifsja.org/index.shtml

my bro has an FSJ. you will be very unhappy with the little 4.6 his jeep was a hog with the 360 until he put on a good edlebroke manifold and cam. his f1000 (i think i can call him latter and confirm) has D44's front and rear. his front d44 is closed knuckle, i never have found out if that is good or not. it flexes very well, and has a very good load capacity. he has fit 33's stock.
