Cool story....I could actually picture myself there. Whether I'd be the one stuck in the river or the hero saving my friend I'm not sure but you're right.....those allnighter rescue missions usually turn out to be a good time had by all....

Great story

You are defintely stacking up the good karma . Over Memorial day weekend, I went over Medano pass in CO. On the up slope jump started a Nissan pickup with a dead battery. And on the down slope pulled a drowned out Ford Exploder out of hub deep water. Didn't know either of 'em, but felt good to help them out.

Great story!
Reminds me of the time my imbecile brother and some of his coworkers decided to cut the summer day short after laying tile in Ftn. Hills . and head for the Salt River nearby to 'cool off'. As it turned out after attempting to cross a nearby stream in his 4X4 Ford truck "to see what this Ford could do", they all really literally cooled off as his indestructible Ford became submerged in about the same depth of water as in your pic. To make a long story short it wasnt untill about 3:00- 4:00 am the next morning before we had his 'proud truck' pulled out by a Shamrock tow truck. Costly, but funny!! My brother finally saw the lite and has stayed away from Fords since then.
What is it anyways with Ford's and water that they become sunk in 2" of water?

Ted

to be fair, I think it's often about the driver more than the name on the vehicle. Folks who get too cocky about their vehicle often drive like idiots in an attempt to show off - and bring about vehicle failure in the process.

The ford guy in this instance would have been fine if he had followed the basic rule of water crossing and just push a calm bow wave across - but he got the idea to slam through at 15 mph for whatever reason. in that scenario even one of our beloved isuzus would probably not have been very happy.

on the return trip, as can be seen in the one clear picture I got, he pushed through slow and in a much more shallow part of the river, resulting in a clean and pleasant egress

as for brand vs. brand? I drive what I drive on purpose. I've been pretty serious about wheeling for several years now and spent a lot of time driving, wrenching, and abusing vehicles before that. no vehicle is flawless but the gen-1 trooper soaks up abuse like few other vehicles can, and is one of the easiest trucks i've ever worked on. It's pretty safe to say you won't see me in another ford 4x4 soon.

I couldnt agree more. I've yet to get stuck in my beloved '88 1st Gen. 2.6 and its basically stock really except for a few things. (that will change soon). By the way...relating to my story of my brother getting stuck in the Salt River......did you happen to see the 2nd front page of todays Arizona Republic? Talk about deja vu all over again. To those of you who dont subscribe to the Az. Republic there is a guy taking a tow strap to his Jeep which is stuck in the muck in our Salt River located just outside of Phx. Its possible to get a pic if you log onto Arizona Central.com . Just what you were referring to about people not thinking first and letting their egos get in the way. Couldnt help but chuckling and feeling sorry for the guy also but I believe he should have referred to Arizona's 'Stupid Law' first before attempting to cross the river. Even if there were no barricades he should be cited.
