I think it looks kinda nifty. Which is not to say I'd ever own one...

I did ride in a buddies once. The hardtop kept leaking all over me around the gasket and I don't recall sitting in the back to be very comfy, and it was just me back there.

edit: I just rembered my lesbian aunt owns one. She loves it. I'm not kidding!

AFAIK, Isuzus are about equal to 'yotas as far as reliability. The Toyota might have a slight edge in a poor maintenance situation, but that shouldn't apply here.

Where Toyota has a definite advantage, time and time again, is resale value. They hold theirs like no other I have found. Nissan, for instance, is just as reliable/well built, but they depreciate pretty badly.

Roll Me Over
Do you plan to wheel? The Toyota's IFS suspension is far superior to the Isuzu's. I know this because I looked into making ball joint spacers for them and by buddy has one. I spent quite a while under it and was amazed at the differences between the two suspensions. One (Toyota) was clearly made for off road use, the Isuzu just isn't. Also there are minimal aftermarket suspension upgrades for the Isuzu.

The over quality is not bad, the Toyota is better but the Isuzu is not bad.

The Isuzu's 3.2 dual overhead cam V6 is faster than a 3.0 4runner.

The Toyota will outlast it and hold it's value better as I'm sure you know.
