Body Damage is Cool
If your planning on going to the CalRocs Extreme Rockcrawling competion in Goldendale on June 18-20, I can meet you and try to help.

Does the whine increase with speed? Have you located what area of the vehicle it's heard the best at? Any mods to your 98 rodeo? The more info you can give, the easier people can help you.

Also, welcome to the land of the Pacific NW Isuzu Off-Roaders! Hope to wheel or wrench with you soon!

Everytime I hear this I'm reminded of those stupid devices people would shove in your tailpipe as a practicle joke. Not saying this is your problem but it takes two seconds to look in there.

Roll Me Over
I've never put one of those in someone's exhaust pipe.

Nor have I put a big zip tie around someone's drive shaft. That makes some wonderful noise. Especially if you just do the front shaft. I had a guy I work with that took his truck to the shop thinking there was something wrong with his front axle or transfer case. I'm sure the shop got to laugh as hard as I did.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Put the vehicle in park and rev it thru the rpm range. If you can reproduce the whine, then it is likely something belt-driven. I would suspect the P/S pump which has a tendency towards whinniness, according to the dealer I spoke to. If the whine only occurs when the wheels are spinning, then that's a big clue right there....
