(Something tells me that IÆd really hate to be on the receiving end of your æguest servicesÆ bill û I suspect the Pay-Per-View charges alone will equal the GNP of Guatemala! ) Pay-Per-View?! If only I hadn't brought my own camera on this trip! Okay Michael, Randy, and the rest of the moderators, I PROMISE to keep it above board from hereon out. Dallas you brought up a valid point. I've had the opportunity to check it out again in the daytime, and the waterpump hole (no tech terms right now, too many Fosters ) for the fan driveshaft, is throughly reamed out. Overspun, reverse-spun, seized-up? Not sure now. Time to go back to bed..... Travis

Thanks to Jerry, I'll have the parts to get back on the road.
It can be started up and sounds okay, but without the alt it dies quick. Which is fine, I only needed to at least try, to see if the internals were still intact. 5-10 secs running on a cold motor without coolant is fine.
Oh well, time to hit Avis.
Travis
P.S. Thanks for the feedback everyone!

Well Dallas, I am guessing that my first one fell off due to all the driveline vibration and unbalanced 35's, I put my second fan falling off as poor craftsmanship on the first repair.
As far as a strong headwind, it could be possible that it somehow created a pretty good vacuum preventing the fan from spinning.

HI DALLAS YOUR RIGHT ABOUT THE FAN AND THE AIR STREAM, CAUSING A FAN TO SPIN FASTER THANS IT NORMALLY WOULD , AND THIS SHOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM, HOWEVER MANY YEARS AGO WE WERE DOING HI SPEED COOLING TESTS USING LARGE HI OUT PUT HARTZELL FANS , AND BY MOVING THE FANS AT DIANGLES TO THE FRONT OF THE CAR , AT A GIVEN SPEED USUALLY ABOUT 15 DEGRES FROM CENTER, MOSTLY FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE , WE COULD ACTUALLY CAUSE THE FAN TO ALLMOST STOP, WITH AN EQUIVELANT VEH SPEED OF ABOUT 45 MPH AND THIS WILL CAUSE A FAN CLUTCH TO GET HOT ESP ONE WITH THIS KIND OF MILEAGE, BUT A TRUE HEAD ON WIND WOULDN,T EFFECT IT AT ALL , CONDITIONS HAVE TO BE JUST RITE AND I WOULD BET THAT YOU COULD HOLD THE FAN BLADES STILL ON TRAVIS TRUCK WITH THE ENG RUNNING AT IDLE ESP WITH THIS MILEAGE , RARE YOU BET POSSIABLE YOU BET JERRY

With the top off (home weather was beautiful) and the wind howling, I couldn't even hear my engine running. Travis

OK now that makes sense to me. I can see how an angled headwind could catch the advancing fan blades and cause them to stop. I agree, highly unlikely, but certainly possible.

i had a similar thing happen on my first car, a '72 Plymouth Duster. the bearing(s) in the fan clutch apparently went bad and sent the fan into the radiator. so, being a goofy 16 y.o. kid, i replaced the radiator and fan, and it happened again. my uncle then told me to replace the fan clutch, and that solved the problem.
