Recently I purchased a 92 4runner, v6, auto, power everything, all options (I know of) from a dealer with only 24,000 miles on it. The guy was an executive from Corning, Inc. (A local, but worldwide company) and was in Asia on business for 3 months at a time, and back for one month. The dealer had all service records to back up the mileage, and the services performed over the years. All maintenance up to date, and the v06 campaign done just 5 months before I bought it. The guy always brought it there for anything wrong. I even called the previous owner, very nice guy. Just bought an 04. No problems with it, just regular service issues.
The service department at this dealer is great, the sales department is a bunch of $#%$#%$#%%^!
Long story short, after replacing all the brake lines (one broke when they were inspecting it, and so did the emergency brake cable when the tech went to stop it from hitting the lift in the garage....Couldn't have happened at a better time) and doing a full brake job, I took receipt of the 4runner.
New York State Law gives you 4,000 miles or 3months warranty on all major systems (Brake, engine, steering, etc)I've driven it for 3,000 miles in 6 weeks. It developed a wobbly feeling in the front after about 800 miles. I had to work out of town for a whole week (NO spare time) and ended up racking 1200 miles on the thing.
I bring it home and jack it up. Idler arm wobbles at pin part going into the center link. Hmmm...I wiggle the tire at 12 and 6 o'clock, loose wheel bearing...great. Take it immediately to dealer, service gets it on the rack within 5 minutes. Tech re-tightens bearing, orders new idler arm.
Forward to today- Going in for service of the front end @ 1:30 pm EST. I've driven another 1000 miles since the wheel bearing and idler have been going out. Front end feels like crap, all over the place. I think the bearing is now bad, it feels loose again when wiggled.
I need info, or any help on what all I should have them look for and replace. I have to get most of this done now, as I have almost 2 months on warranty, but only 900 miles now. Anything that is caused to fail by a covered part is also covered.
Here's my list so far:
1 Idler arm
2 wheel bearing, races
3 tie rod assembly
4 check balljoints, or should the just be replaced?
5 allignment
6 wheel balancing
Bushings, seals, etc? ANYTHING else you guys can think of that would be worn or soon to fail due to driving under these conditions?
Thanks for your help,
Jason
