His 4runner is about to lose it's engine. What do you guys recomend, a rebuild or dropping in a new engine. What types of swaps are easy for this year. he wants more power and better gas milage. Thanks for the help! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

I suggest that he give you the truck and go by himself a new one.......Now, is that a good idea or what?

If he has a V6 in there, there was a head gasket recall for it; have him read up at the thread below:

Head Gasket Recall Information

He can take the VIN to the dealer and see if has been taken care of if you guys aren't the original owners of the truck.

The 3.4 swap is popular; take a look around here for the thread; fellow did a nice writeup, and it's going to become a permanent article on this website.

If it's the 4 banger and he wants more power, he needs to talk to some of the EB'd 22R owners here, otherwise he's going to shell out some bucks for a new drivetrain to handle 'more power' for the torque.

If you guys are on a budget, a rebuild will give you back some power and gas mileage. Also have the fuel injectors sent off and cleaned/refurbished:

<a href="http:/www.cruzinperformance.com" target="_blank">CruzinPerformance</a> People have done business with these guys and are pleased.

Hope that helps getcha started anyway; welcome to the board!

What engine is it, the 3.0 or 22re? What is the matter with it? How many miles? And does it Smoke, make odd noises...etc?? Like Kewl said, some v6's still have the headgasket recall and u can get it fixed for nothing.

3.0 It's had the headgasket replaced, it is just really tired, 235,000. Bad gas mileage around 14 to 15. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

That gas mileage is actually normal. Is the truck slow? That's normal too. Keep it maintained and drive it until it dies.

totally normal.....Sounds like your good to go for another 100k miles. Power is over rated anyways.... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" /> It's all in the gearing and wheel combo....The auto is even worst.

That is bad MPG! Even w/a leaking HG & 297,000+ miles, I got 21-24 MPG! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />
