Hey Sherpa does the blower have anything to do with making it "feel" quicker, and does the pitch of the engine as it gets up into the powerband give you the urge to run at higher RPMs? ... it did for me, but the mileage is still better than the 3.0L

Yes, the blower does make it feel quicker, but it is more evident when at higher rpms. The fact that I have moderate to significant predetonation problems has caused me to slowly modify my driving habits. The guys at Off Road Solutions encouraged me to start shifting at a higher rpm and to not lug the engine, with or without the blower. Mike Caskey says that the 3.4L engine really runs better at higher rpms and should not be short shifted. I still find myself short shifting occassionally, but I do run it up a fair amount higher (3700-4000rpm) then I did (2800-3200rpm) in the past.

I haven't measured this in a long time, but I think there was a time before the blower that I short shifted for an entire tank and shifter higher for an entire tank. I think my fuel economy was a little better with the higher shift points. I wish I remembered the results, but I don't.

Good point, Sherpa.

The 3rd gen gear ratios are listed in this thread.

Thanks, Jeff!

Sherpa, Mike (good guy) knows his stuff... he dropped the 4.3L in my '89. I stepped up to a 9 lb. pulley so to be safe I run high octane and a bottle of octane boost to boot. In pings a little if I put my foot in it at low rmps (<2500). Shifting it between 3500-4500, with 4.88s & 35" it cruses around 70 mph at 3000 rpms. If I'd stop winding it up just to hear the whine of the blower I'm sure I'd get better milage. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> I'll check out your buddy's CO page, I'm always amazed every time I wheel here. Take care.
