I think I see the scoop. That rear steel plate serves as a solid attachment for the seat and the belts, eh? The seat that was in mine looked pretty original as far as upholstery, but just had a sheet metal base that was closed in for storage. There was a lock on the front and then the seat could be flipped up a little to put things in under it. Looking at the lock, etc. I think somebody fabed that for the original seat. I have been looking at cheap replacement ones on the web, several companies have bolt in ones for around $150 or $160. I'll have to call and see if they come with those braces, or what. Yeah, I don't mind unbolting either. The fold and tumble seems a little funky in a CJ-5, there is so little room anyway. I'll have to ponder some more on a stable 4 to 5 bolt system that would be fairly easy to pop out.
