I bought 2 new extention bumpstops and shaved them down to about .25 inch. Is this too much? Will the compound angle be too extreme? Does anyone have experience with breaking a CV with this (or any other) set up?

The real question is.. how cranked ar the bars?

The reason the suspension would normally be at full extension is because there is little or no weight on the tire. That means little to no traction and therefore no breakage.

If you are running the bars way cranked, then you can have situations where the suspension is at extreme angles and has lots of force on the wheels. The resulting traction can lead to breakage as can the extreme angles on premature CV wear.

Frank.

Frank, the bars are at stock level, not touched. I added the bumpstops to get more extention travel. I was just wondering if I went a little to far.

1/4" shouldn't cause problems, you don't run your truck with the suspension at that angle all of the time or even often, right? It's just momentary. Might not hurt to be a little mindful of when it's fully extended.

I've been using the 5/8" (?) poly snubbers for years, stock height or maybe 1/2" of crank, no problems - not even a torn boot (knock on wood).

The only time the front drive train sees heavy loads is when heavy loads are on the tires. Even then, the stock bars are usually too stiff to even let you get to a flatter bumpstop. If it does, the angle is still very mild. You're fine there.

As for extension, like I said, there ain't much force on the wheel, hence why the suspension is extended, and so not much force on the drivetrain. I wouldn't worry about it at all, you're in good shape.

Frank.

Body Damage is Cool
I simply removed my extension bumpstops all together some time ago and used some washers to space my shocks down so that it is metal against metal at full extension. I've done a good bit of wheeling since and no problems so far.

I spaced my shocks down, too.
Wow no extention bumpstops. I could probably get another 3/4" to 1" of travel. Looks like the 1/4" ones are gonna work OK.
Thanks to everyone for posting.
