My Gen1 SWB has bolt holes in the crossmember that the T-bars bolt to, and I've seen diagrams where there was a plate that ran from there to the front crossmember. Not sure if it was stock, some seem to have them and some don't. It looks like a pretty similar setup to what you guys have. I would like to get a plate fabbed up for that space! The photos I've seen of Kary's rig show pretty much full underbody plates, and he doesn't have overheating problems....someday for me too!

I DO have a number of skid plates. I have coverage to the rearmost crossmember where the torsion bar adjusters are. The rearmost 2 are 5/16" steel and are very strong, and heavy. The pair probably weighs ~110 lbs. I use a jack to install them. They also have 1/2" reinforcements welded/tapered around the bolt holes to protect the attachment bolts. They are flat and open on the sides, and there is no overheating with them in place. My fuel tank skid plate is made of 1/4" steel. I can't tell they are there as there is an excess of power with my rig. I have pictures, but no way to post them.

Kary-Have you ever come down hard on your 1/4" fuel tank plate? How does a quarter inch plate hold up back there? I've been thinking about having a fuel tank plate fabbed up and was wondering what was really needed back there. Thanks for any info, I've been quietly envying your setup for a while now!
P.S.-sorry for a semi-hijack of this thread!

I have just finished the fuel tank skid, so I've not had time to test it. But Don's is thinner and it works well, but has needed to be straightened once tor twice, so I think 1/4" should do just fine.
