By "GRUNT" I assume you mean low-midrange torque. Upper rpm band HP boost is fairly easy and inexpensive with a centrifugal S/C. Some folks have added turbos. Increases in low-midrange torque requires a quantum leap in both money and effort. Some choices include:

1) An aftermarket ECU change could help the ignition advance/fuel curve - ~ $1500+
2) A stroker kit in combination with increased bore can boost displacement to 3.3L+ - ~ $3000+
3) A twin screw Eaton S/C kit is available - ~ $4500+
4) Engine swap - a few 4.3L V6 swaps have been done

Choose your poison.... it's probably cheaper to trade it for another rig. If you're fond of the Gen1 body, one possibility is to put the body on a Jeep chassis. I haven't done much more in that area than consider the idea and compare wheelbases - don't know if it's been done yet or if it's realistic.

Good luck,
Frank

Do you have an LWB or SWB? The 95-98(?) 3.0 is more like 177HP/185LbFt. The main difference being the 24V SOHC heads. I don't know what else is different from there. Intake, ECU, other???

I'm talking trash here as I have no idea, but what would it take to put the heads on yours? Would it need a new ECU to go with it, or could the 90's manage enough delivery? I'm guessing that it isn't just a bolt on as I don't remember anyone else doing it, and there have been some Gen I 3.0 rebuilds done here.

I think it has been discussed in the past, but I don't remember any details...

Seems your caps key is still stuck on....

First question is what condition is your existing motor in. Is it running like it should, how many miles, compression state of tune ect.

Second is what are your performance goals. What do you want to with the vehicle? Drag race, tow, off road ect.

How important is fuel economy?

A V8 is a tough swap and the 727 that came behind a 383 has no overdrive so expect a tight fit and a motor that spins pretty fast on the highway. Figure on under 12 mpg.

You can build a turbo motor to put the power band at whatever RPM you would like.

At that point a 4.3 chev makes more sense.

All comes down to how attached to the vehicle you are.

Kevin

Thank you. How do I go about finding a Pajero EVO? This sounds very interesting, indeed...

Not sure how you guys work it but there are some for sale here in the uk but most are imported direct from japan. Have you tried searchind the web there for 'pajero evos for sale'? When Ive worked out how to put pictures on here, i'll post a few of mine....
Also, visit www.pocuk.com and look in the evo section ref imports. Obviously the import will be different for you but
some of the guys there have imported. There a few websites of auction rooms within the posts.
good luck
