Believe it or not, I have had the same problem with the Toyota oil filters (which are made by Denso). Last time I changed the oil in my pickup ('93 22R-E) nary a drop of oil was in the filter - but, the engine had not been run for about 24 hours either. I've noticed lately I can really hear those valves dancing on startup until the oil (Valvoline 10W30) can get to them. I'm stumped as well.

'93 Pickup | 22R-E | 2WD| Yeah...it's my daily ride.
