I did a investigation on some filters..I cut some apart to see what the guts look like and the Frams are some of the lowest quality filters out there. They do not contain anti-drainback valves Of all the Fram's I've disected(at least a dozen) they have had a anti-drain back device. it's right at the front(screw on end) usually black in color, but have found an occasional blue one. please check your facts before bashing a product. as for filter material I have seen little differance btwn the valvoline, napa(silverline), and fram.........Karl

There was a time when frams were crap and seemed somewhat hollow, but for at least the last year, they have outperformed any offering my local dealerships have had. Fram is a large company (Allied Signal) and to loose their corner of the filtering market would hurt, I think they investigated a drop in sales, polled the consumer and made some changes. No anti-drain back valve? Them filters must have been weeeeery old. Hell even the cheapass no-name green filter that came on my 81' Celica had an anti-drainback valve. This day and age, a company cant stay competitive with a sub-par product. Cut open a Toyota-filter...the standard one that dealerships sell and use without specifying special order. You will find a filter identical to a purolater under the cool black paint. Fram for this kid until I have one piss me off.

This day and age, a company cant stay competitive with a sub-par product. ROTFLMAO!!! You don't *really* mean that, do you? On consumble products, you bet I do. Take anything from paper towels to clothes, if they are garbage only your basic tightass penny pinching consumer will by them. Ever wonder why them dollar stores sell "Smooth Soap" instead of "Soft Soap"? Whats your point?? Maybe I used the wrong wording to try and get my point across. That point being that Fram was building a bad rep quickly and obviously did something to change that. They got me and a handful of others here back as customers. You sure do post alot of replies with a negative air about them. Ever considered less condescending replies? Why dont you school me on the business world since I obviously have no clue on the way it works (LOL). ~Darin

I used Fram filters in my truck for a good many years until there was a discussion here about the ability of a particular filter to filter out large particals of chit. Mobil1 specifies on their box how many microns their filter will retain. SOLD. I gotta say though, I always got a good armpit full of oil when doing a filter change using Fram. Never had a dry filter.

Ive used Fram for the last couple of years without any problems. And there is always plenty of oil for me to drip all over myself and the garage. Sometimes I feel like I should wear ski goggles to change my oil. .

As well KMart, Pepboys, Autozone, Home Depot, etc. Cheap junk sells well, just look at the shelves of it. Didn't say you don't have a clue about business, but since you insist you don't, I won't argue with you on the point.

I agree. It's all about price these days. Most people don't give a crap about quality. They are stupid enough to buy the cheapest thing they can find and when it breaks just buy another one and another one and still think they are getting a good deal. When in the end, if they just bought the high quality, made in America, Japan, etc, product, they would have been better off. And they wouldn't be part of the problem of all of our jobs going down south and overseas. Cheap sells so well, that Wallmart is the number one company in terms of revenue on the entire planet. And second only to Exxon-Mobil in net profit. They are numero uno on the Fortune 500 list. Think about that for a second. Besides, when it comes to filters, how is the average idiot going to tell the difference between a cheap filter and an expensive high quality filter, unless they actually do some research? They not likely to notice any difference in how their car drives over the short term, so of course many people are going to pick the cheapest filter they can find. The only thing that makes people buy more expensive filters is advertising. If marketers can convince people to buy the more expensive filters, some will. But the vast majority of people out there are not going to cut open a filter, test them or even bother to read about tests on filters. They either buy based on price or succum to marketing.

Yes Wal-Mart has cheap crap, but it is cheap crap becasue the company has gained competitive advantage over its competitors. But its the same cheap crap all the others sell.
The company was set up as a logistics company to reduce costs and be able to move and sell large quantities easily. This makes the same product at wal-mart substantially cheaper than any of its competitors. This holds true for 99 percent of the goods sold at wally world. This is why Wal-Mart is number one in revenues. If it were all cheap crap, it would not sell.
Your stuff on marketing and advertising I agree with, but Wal-Mart, I have studied in business classes, it always seems to be an example there.
K-Mart was cheap crap, that is why they are having financial trounble, that and because Wally World kicks their butt any day, price and quality wise.
