I'll re-ask: Why does the Rodeo get stuck?

no, it did not. The surfice was fairly firm - it
was PAVED, and it was steep uphill.
You cannot get stuck under these conditions <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Is it wheelbase? Is it hiting front and rear tires at the sime time, then having to pull the weight of the vehicle up with only the edge of traction on all 4 wheels?

yep! I had not enough traction to pull me up.

Subrubans were mentioned doing it without much problem--I picture high-centering with a longer wheel base. Wouldn't a Jeep/Samuri (short wheelbase) have the best run at it, getting on one stair at a time?

That Suburban on 35" (or may be even 38") had plenty
of clearence over the steps. I do not know about
Jeeps/Sammies - they would have to climb steeper
angle than Suburban. I saw a short wheelbase vehicle
making those steps, but it was a buggy with something
like 40" wheels.

But if a member of this board did it on his 29"s, than
it must be not so difficult for an experienced driver...
