The shadows do make it difficult to get the full effect of the terrain, but it does appear that the obstacles are irregular and not evenly spaced out. To me this would indicate that wheelbase is not so important as articulation. But then again Oleg did say his surface was paved.... maybe they were actually more like "steps". Just a thought.

Cool obstacle - they should put one of those at the entrance to the HOV lanes here in Dallas.

They are paved stairs with rocks placed in at random. The stairs are a little steeper than a boat ramp and covered in sand. And yes it is wheel base, you hit both front and rear tires on about 12-16" of smooth cement, with sand involved you can't do much. You can take it at an angle which I have and can start to make it up easily but sooner or later you will run into a set of steps head on. The steps are not all horizontal but rather /\/\/\. Tires may help but I have seen my share of stock jeeps just cruise on up do to the fact that the hit the steps in oreder rather than at the same time. It is such an easy obstical its laughable but I can't manage it for some reason or another.
As for Truck Hill, you have to have one of three things, over 300hp, very light truck, or cahonas made of brass. That hill is near 38*, so I have heard never tested , and loose gravel and rock all the way. You don't make it to the top your brakes don't do much good you just slide back down. If you get side ways forget it, just close your eyes and think of all the money your gonna spend on fixing the roof of the truck . But when you decide to give it a shot let me know, I bring the camera and the First AID Kit.

That hill actually reminds me of one of those times the skinny pedal comes in handy... but those pics prolly don't do justice.
It really looks like it was an example of a little bit of wheelbase and a lot of not airing down, looks sandy.

Truck hill aka Five Fingers???
Anyways, about the stairs I found that if I zig zag to the top I go up easy, I guess doing that improves traction? And yes the steps are spaced randomly closer and farther apart than each other.

Looks to me like that Suburban was on 38s.
A suburban runs a wheelbase over 130 inches long. Most obstacles are all about making it difficult for a shorter wheelbase vehicle. As for feeling bad about a suburban making it, don't burbans can go places, they have a whole lot of weight and not bad flex the only downfall is they have so much overhang, but on a set of 38s with appropriate lift, I have a hard time seeing anything on that hill even getting close to the undercarriage of that burban.
Looking at what I can of that hill, I can't say definitively, but it seems to me that its just a matter of choosing the right lines and using the skinney pedal appropriately.
To make it an easy trip up that hill you need really good articulation, or some lockers.
Airing down will help, but being careful and knowing the right place to get on the skinney pedal should get you up just fine.
Some folks are religious about airing down, I am not one of those folks. Don't get me wrong, it helps, sometimes it even helps alot. But in general airing down is usually not enough. Give yourself some time, and try some lines that may not really seem to make any sense. You might be surprized what happens. Also be prepared to "bump" yourself over the obstacles. (which can also mean, be prepared to get a little body damage =) ).

I did make the stairs w/o wheelspin and I have a 99 Acura SLX. I used 245/70/16 BFG ATko on stock rims and tokico trekmaster shocks. I aired down to 20 psi and set my LSD with the handbrake before climbing. I used a bump start at the bottom and had to re apply the handbrake a few times on the way up to insure traction. My vehicle is almost completely stock. Wheel placement is critical on the ascent. You have to have a mental image of your wheels in relation to the terrain. It IS a white knuckle exercise. Thanks to Terry Johnson for the driving instruction.

I bet your LSD had a lot to do with your success.... that's why I want to transplant one into my rear.
