Cotterpins are soft, they drill out quite easily.

Ouch, that ones gotta hurt. Only suggestion I can offer is...."Know anyone with a press"???
Once a drill bit decides to park itself in the hole, Joe Shadetree mechanic is usually screwed.
Feel bad for ya.

Once you've gotten the remains of the cotter pin clear, you can use a prick punch and push the broken off drill bit out. It will most likely come out best going backwards (push the tip of the bit).

Try a sawzall right through the middle of the nut and stud.
Or a cut-off wheel in an angle/die grinder. If you do not have one you can rent one for a couple bucks. You can put a cut-off wheel on your drill too. That would easily cut through the whole mess and your cotter pin will no longer be part of the truck. Leaving part of a nut and a very short stud.

He has the nut off the ball joints allready. Just need to get what's left of the cotter pin off w/out ruining the ball joints.

Sorry, I missed that part. Just buy a new ball joint? They are not that expensive.
