I'm planning to have a relative get me a winch from the U.S. before the year ends.

Do you have any recommendations? I will use it for my GEN II. I don't do harcore stuff but having some extra insurance does help. Electric or hydraulic? My electrical and power steering system are both stock. Which will suit my rig better.

Budget is kinda limited so I hope you guys could help.

Btw, Airtec or Safari Snorkel? What are the part#'s for a GEN II Pajero/Montero. Thanks!

I think the differences in the snorkels are looks. I like the Safari better as you can see in my sig.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Whats up OTEP. Not sure which winch to go for, for I'm not a big expert on winches yet. I know you dont have a huge budget, but you want to make sure that you always have a winch that could pull the weight of your vehicle without being overloaded. Most of the time an 8000lbs winch can do the job. It has always been a big debate on weither hydraulic or electric was better. I ended up going with a warn HS9500. If you do alot of deep water crossings, I think you would want to look at hydraulic. I'm sure people that have dealt with both of them can tell you more about it.

I hope you find a good winch at a good price. And I'm not too sure with the snorkels, but I've always liked the design of the Safari. Have fun with your winch and snorkel when you get it!

As for size of winch, I would reccomend 12K, but atleast 10,500 for a Gen II 4dr. Even then, if TRUELY stuck, youll still have to winch and drive. Remember truely stuck is with a traction aid, good tires, and no motion, burried frame deep. For this an 8,000lb winch would be useless, and youll just smoke electrics if you overload them so badly. An 8 or 9K might do something with a SWB. Its the drag you have to overcome. As far as electric Vs hydraulic, you can do some searches for that much debated topic. I like a hydraulic for 100% reliablity, life of rig expectancy, less expensive to install(no 2nd battery, ect), 100% duty cycle, hoist capability, delicate speed for difficult situations, no electrical system taxing, full power pull curve with no loss due to electrical fade, no problem in water.......An electric is definately better for winch and drive, and moderate pulls with little drag as the full power line speed is so much faster. For rockcrawling competition electric is the only way to go as well.

I've been leaning towards a 9,000lb Mile Marker (I think I can stretch the budget a bit). Can the stock P/S system drive it?

And how do you hook up a Mile Marker on a Mitsu? I don't see any Mitsu specific hydraulic fitting kit for it. Do you need custom plumbing?

My Warn X8000i has pulled some pretty stuck trucks out. I say put a snatch block on it and you will be fine. I will say I have no experinece pulling vehicles through rocks. Just gumbo mud, sand and water.

That's the stuff I wheel through. Do you have a stock electrical system?

Lloyd's been running the stock steering pump and he's done more winching than most using his milemarker 10,500.

He can also tell you more about the fittings.

Go with the 10,500, 2spd if you go hydraulic. I have used mine for 12hrs at a time cave digging, so there is no problem with the pump. My understanding is the Toyota fittings are the same. I took my hoses in to a hose shop for custom fittings back when I had my last one done. One thing I hate about my 2dr, have to be tied off to winch full size vehicles, unlike a Gen II whaler
