The Fall Colors Ride '04 will be held at George Washington National Forest on Friday, October 22nd through Sunday, October 24th. Camping this year will be at the meadow. It's a little further from the trails, but we will have a big open space and we won't be tripping over rocks while walking over to our tents.
There will be an afternoon run on Friday, October 22nd departing at noon and a full day run Saturday departing at 9:00. We usually meet up for lunch on Saturday to trade stories and switch up groups & trails. If there is enough interest we could also set up a night run for either Friday or Saturday night. The night runs usually turn out to be a coin-toss because the group gets lost 90% of the time. LOL
The entrance to the National Forest is off Route 33, just west of Harrisonburg, VA. For those who have never gone to GWNF, the wheeling is easy to moderate with very few big rockgardens for the hardcore guys. Stock & moderately lifted trucks trucks should be able to make it through all the loop trails.
The fall colors run has never been a "formal" event. It's more of a get together with a nice mix of light wheeling, great scenery and a seasonal break from the daily grind. There are no registration fees and no camping fees. So, just bring your rig, camping supplies, sustenance, and beverage of choice and come enjoy a great weekend.
I might need one or two more trail leads, depending on the number of people that end up going. If anyone would like to volunteer early it would be greatly appreciated. P.S.-No night runs led by Allen D. this year. LOL

Hey now! Isn't there a statute of limitations on this stuff? That was like 3 years ago! I thought you guys WANTED to drive around in a big circle for a half hour!
I'm definitely looking forward to the FCR. It's always a nice, laid back time. We should start accumulating wood now for John's bonfire!

I'll be there. Hey Allen, wasn't that a night run went the circle of Toys happened?
Hey Ace, mention it's primitive camping for all those bringing the significant others. And that the nearest thing to civilization is about 20-30 minutes away.

You just did it for me. hehe Not trying to scare the girls away. They are definitely half the fun on all our trips.

We should start accumulating wood now for John's bonfire! I'm gonna try to talk Fireman John into swinging by my house before going. I'm sure we could get "a ton" of wood (no pun intended LOL) into that brand new F-350 of his.

I'll be there. Hey Allen, wasn't that a night run went the circle of Toys happened? Yeah, it's not so easy finding a trail that's covered in leaves and winds between trees....at night! It was kinda cool though looking and seeing a nearly complete circle of tail lights going round 'n round.

Hey Ace, count me in. My truck will be ready to go by next week so that gives me plenty of time to get the rest of my wish-list (lockers, etc.) together. SInce this is primitive camping, I imagine that plenty of potable water is needed if one has shower and cleanup plans ... That is unless everyone wants to smell the funk down-wind ...
This would be my first FCR and it out to be a blast for sure. So is there any un-official logo for the ride ?? You know I gots to have some stickers made up for the group.
Let me know!

I believe I'm in. My brother will probably accompany me for the journey again. Now I just have to decide, do I put a new clutch in the 4Runner , or get some skinny 33's and another CB and bring the Taco .
I have a cord of cherry wood behind my garage, but that might be quite a load to haul for 4 hours...
