How do you keep the axle located with a slot instead of a pin? Ever concerned about slippage? Or do you torque them 5/8 U bolts to 200 ft/lbs?
More seriously, do you have axle wrap problems with the blocks?

And theoretically, the center pin shouldn't be doing the work of locating the axle. The friction from the u-bolts clamping the springs to the axle should. That's why those thin 3/8" center pins break so easily if your bolts get loose.

I have the equivalent of 2" blocks (1/2" taller perch plus 1.5" tube). The Chevy's control wrap pretty well on their own, but there is a little. Not enough to worry about w/ my tired 22re...

I don't get the USMC thing...?

Allan- didn't know what your screen name was...

Lou- I look at the Rancho's u-bolt specs here:
http://www.gorancho.com/documents/specifications_3.pdf
And then buy the ones I need at Central 4wd.
Costs about the same as having the local spring shop make them... (~$10/ea).

Also you can get them with various bends (round, square, etc.).

That would be a compliment...

I take my tape measure, micrometer, PB Blaster and tool kit to the wrecking yard (hour drive each way). Search for the right vehicle(if they have any there)and maybe get the part I need, OR , order U-bolts the correct size and fab up some plates for less than one of the pre-made kits.
Who's working way to hard?

Brandon (CTdude) is spoiled because he lives just a few minutes away from a TON of great junkyards, steel yards, and other supply type places, as well as 4wd shops.

For the rest of us, its a lot easier to figure out what we need in advance, and get it all in one trip or simply order it and wait a few days.
(depending on what you're looking for)

Erik, I hear ya. I used to live in smelL.A. before I moved to the mountains. Wrecking yards everywhere! But I am much happier here.
