Thanks Lou. As a follow up- I emailed that drawing to a lil shop in town yesterday and picked the plates up today. Just did a test fit and everything is fine! Allan 87 Turbo 4Runner

H2ohs - Quick clarifiaction... This is for the rear springs... U-bolt flip, right?
This couldn't have come at a better time. Just finshed ALL the mods to rear diff housing and e-locker is ready to go in. Was going to make the U-bolt plates this weekend and it looks like you've just provided the template. Thanks!

I did the junkyard thing too. I knew the diameter of my rear axle tubes, and the width of my springs (approx 2 3/8"), then went looking for a truck with ubolts and plates with like dimensions. I ended up under an early 80's chevy 1/2 ton van, and got the plates+ubolts for $10 out the door. What more fun is there to have on a saturday morning?

Chevy 1/2 ton from from the 80s has a perfect size U-bolt and plate for the 86+ rear axle. That's what I'm using on mine.

In the 5th pic in this link http://dreamwater.com/zuk/sua.html I am using a 5/8" killer plate with 5/8" u-bolts....the plates were "stressing" at a mere 100 ft/lbs......the packs kept loosening up cause the plates kept giving more and more.....problem went away with 2 pieces of flatstock of dimensions .25x1.25x3.5 welded on the front and back side of the flat plate....beefed it up 10 times. Now when I tighten up the u-bolts I don't feel the plates giving anymore. By the way, that SUA is startin to grow on me!
