I would really like to totally replace the T-case on my 98 Montero Sport with 2.85:1 or 3:1 or 4:1 Where do I start?
I have a laughable low gear of 1.925:1

I think 99% of us Monty owners have the same crappy low range ratio. I'd rather add a extra t-case than simply replacing it. Nothing fits without an adapter plate so a crawler gear with a 2.69:1 or a 3:1 is enough for us who aren't doing any serious competition rock climbing.
Loosing that full-time 4WD is a shame.

There are the only thing available, and quite a bargain compared to custom, one off ideas no one has ever tried. They are easily good for 35" tires, with no moe stalling
1996 SR From the Area 51 Skunk Works. 37"BFG Tires, 5" lift, Rock Track 4:1 Case, Tom Woods Drive Shafts, Oasis Air, Front ARB, lifted gas tank, T-max winch and lots of stuff that cost too much.

Do you have his e-mail?
How much did you pay for your 2.85 gears?

I have a 98 MS. So I don't have full-time 4WD. 2.85 gears would be a vast improvement from 1.925. I just figuer if you are going to spend all that money you might as well do it right and get 4:1 gears. But that won't be happening for some time. Steve I think 99% of us Monty owners have the same crappy low range ratio. I think there going for 850.00, Franks email is <frankyz@austarmetro.com.au> . Would lower gears be nicer? I dont know, certainly not 4:1, thats too low for me, even with 35s, and the cost to get a custom one off job is in the 4-7K neighborhood, and I dont live their! 2:85 stops all stalling, and allows limitless crawl potential with an Auto and 35s, more with smaller tires obviously. 3 or 3.5 might be nice for a little more downhill compression braking on vertical surfaces, although like at the upcoming Colorado rally as an example the 2:85s take away the need for brakes alltogether. Oh, and I cant wait to see how the 5:29s add to it on the same trails this year

Full time???? Active Track???? Super select???? I was refering to the 4H on the t-case wich isn't a 50/50 split between back and front.
I thougt the Montero Sport had the same T-case as the full size. My mistake.

I think some of the newer MSs have Full time 4WD. But I'm not sure. Steve Full time???? Active Track???? Super select???? I was refering to the 4H on the t-case wich isn't a 50/50 split between back and front.

Well, I guess it back to the drawing board. The 2.85 gears won't fit a auto. Here is what frank said. " If it is the 5sp with the 1.925 low range they will fit if it is the auto version with 1.90 low range they won't." Steve I think there going for 850.00, Franks email is <frankyz@austarmetro.com.au> . Would lower gears be nicer?
