Body Damage is Cool
Your Explorer has a 8.8" rear axle and a DANA 35 in the front TTB. I've seen lots of explorer's on 33s and both axles according to one of the 4x4 mags I read (I can't rember which one) will hold up to 33s just fine. You may want to upgrade your brakes though. I would also swap the Ford hubs for the Warn replacements if your going to use 4wd alot.

Need a Spot
the 8.8 is stronger than a D44 and will handle 35"+ pretty easily. The TTB D35 however will wear out pretty quickly with much over 33's. for more info about explorers check out www.explorerforum.com

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I am running 35's on my Explorer with a superlift 5.5 lift and the only thing I have had trouble with is bearings in the front. I go thru about 3 sets in a summer. I also had to cut out a lot of the front fender and I still rub on some ruff stuff. If I really had the money I would build a 2-door, move the front axle forward so I would have room to put 38" tires under it. That was my goal until I was let go from my work and the new job doesn't pay as much so the Explorer is put on the back burner.
If I was you I would check out the www.explorerforum.com
forum, if I had it to do over or if I had the money now I would go with a solid axle instead of the superlift. There are a lot of guys that have done a swap with either older Bronco's or F-150 and cut the axle down.
Hope this helps
By the way on the Explorer4x4.com (same as the Explorerforum) I go by Perry so check it out and I think there are pics of my Explorer.
