Getting the Wheeling Fever
I've got an 85 Toyota PU that I picked up for $400 from a friend. It's a very basic model (22R) and no AC or power steering. I wanted to covert it from push-pull to crossover and didn't know if I need to also convert it to PS? Can I get by without PS?

Thanks

no power steering... thats wierd, i thought all the 4x4's after 84 had power steering...

if your doing cross over steering you will be putting in a lift and that means bigger tires... and you say rock crawling... so how are you gonna turn those tires with out power steering?

you'll have huge arms if your able to do it without the power steering.

i have a complete(i believe i have everythign) power steering setup out of an 84/85 pickup here... make me an offer... get it out of my garage.

I dont have power steering in my 84, it works fine for me you just have to remember thumbs on the outside of the wheel.

Since you have to swap steering boxes for the crossover steering (to the IFS style), you may as well go with a p/s box. I think manual IFS boxes are going to be pretty rare. If you can find a junked truck with the box, grap the pump. brackets, reservoir, hoses and crankshaft pulley and hook it up.

My 88' 4x4 came from the factory with Armstrong Steering. No A/C either...which is a good thing- less hassle fixing a window regulator or handle! lol

My 88 has manual steering. Bare bones model I guess, no ac or anything either.

I have the power steering parts from a 2wd, though it's low on the priority list.

will the PS stuff off of a 2wd work? I need to raid the junk yards and I might have better luck getting all the stuff if I get it from multiple trucks

I think so.
You need to use the 4wd pitman arm. I've heard the 4wd power steering box is beefier but I don't know if that's fact or fiction.
