Body Damage is Cool
This was my very first 87 Raider. The motor went bad and it sat in the yard for about a year. I replaced it with an 89 V6. ( That I rolled within three months ) One day I bought a body saw and needed something to test it on. So I turned the Raider into a J-top. Then I started looking at the S10 pickup in the yard that had a camper. I kept looking at it and wondering if it would fit on the Raider. So into the garage it went. With a little more cutting and some wood and tin work it fit right on.

Once I had it on, I figured it would be better if it was a walk thru. So I cut the Raider top out all the way to the windshield.

Then I made a counter with a sink and stove. Then built some overhead cupboards and added a Colemen electric cooler. Across from the cooking area there are four cushions that will make into a 7' bed from the back door to the windshield.

I have been neglecting this project for the last year because of this site. ( I got hooked on building turbo Raiders) Now it is time to Turbo up the Campraider.

Well on my way to becoming that eccentric old man in every town.(crazy as a s#@thouse rat) With a yard full of desireable old vehicles that tells you, Sorry they're not for sale..... Someday I'm going to fix them.

I'm starting to grok the 'eccentric old man' comment in your .sig.

I can't decide if that is really cool in a sick sort of way or just really wrong to torture that poor Montero like that! On the other hand, there's got to be places you get take that thing that few others could get a camper of any sort...

What for tanks for the water? And fuel for the stove?

I wonder how a bigger truck one would work on an LWB? Of course a full size p/u one would probably be too wide. Did you cut the length of it at all? If you did, plus the overhang, maybe it would fit an LWB?

I love the remounted OEM mirrors!

How's it handle? Top-heavy, or not really?

How about a pic from the dash looking back?

If you could cut out the cabinets above the driver section would it be wide enough for a bed? Where the sleeping person would have their head on the driver side while feet above the passenger side? That thing is bad .

Is is a auto or manual?

This was just shell with wood paneling inside when I started. The shelf infront of the stove with the loose laminate, folds on a piano hinge.

There is room under the stove and sink for a small propane bottle. Not sure about water storage yet. But I may be able to rig up a small tank with an electric pump.

It is not tall enough to stand up in, and not wide enough to sleep cross ways. Only about 18' above the Raider top,So not enough room for a bunk. But I think it should sleep two on the bed.

I lifted it on by myself. I don't think that it added much more weight than the steel top was.
It has never been on the road yet. so I can not say how it handles. I did tow it to the car wash with my other Raider. No problem there.

I have a 85 turbo motor sitting on the garage floor now.
The top is screwed onto the Raider top with self tappers.
There are some more self tappers going into the inner body on the rear.
I will add some turn buckles and hooks on the side of the body by the rear wheels.
